Tewksbury

Tewksbury Township sits in the northeastern most corner of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. More than 6,000 residents are spread across over 31 square miles It is part of the four-state Highlands region which is now recognized as a natural resource, due to is source of water. The Townships origins trace back to George Willock's purchase of land from the Lenape Indians in the early 1700's. The name Tewksbury is believed to originate from England. The enclave of Oldwick in Tewksbury, has a charming mixture of Victorian, Federal, New England and Georgian style homes, all protected by historic legislation. Today Oldwick is also home to the Somerset Hills Handicapped Riding Center, a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) Premier Accredited Center for Therapeutic horseback riding. Tewksbury is known for the Whittemore Wildlife Sanctuary located on Rockaway Road in Oldwick, dedicated to environmental education. Programs are being run by non-profit organizations for the sole purpose of education, and to stimulate awareness of the total environment, natural, altered historic and human, among people of all ages to develop a sense of responsibility of our natural resources. They offer summer nature day camps, winter and spring break camps, maple sugaring and after-school and toddler year round programs. It is the Township of Tewksbury that maintains the wildlife sanctuary. It's one of the many reasons why residents chose Tewksbury Township to live and raise a family.

The Tewksbury Township School District has two public schools that serve students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Tewksbury Elementary School, for students grades kindergarten through fourth serves about 430 students. Old Turnpike School educates 324 children in Pre-K and grades five through eight. Along with students from Califon, Glen Gardner, Hampton, High Bridge and Lebanon Township, students from Tewksbury attend Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner.

Interstate 78 and County Road 517 both pass through the township.
