Readington

Readington Township was formed in the mid 1700s. Known as the first township created after Hunterdon became a county, its sprawling 48 square miles qualifies the area to be Hunterdon’s largest township.

Located in the heart of central New Jersey, the Readington Museums promote awareness of its history and culture through a series of events, activities, education and preservation, serving the main purpose of preserving collections of artifacts relating to the local history.

The Readington Community Gardens is a beautiful spot visitors enjoy the year long. The town welcomes you to get "down and dirty" doing some community gardening by sharing the work and sharing in the harvest. There are no fees, just your time and some good old fashioned fun.

The public schools serve students in kindergarten through grade eight. Three Bridges School educates more than 400 students kindergarten through third grade. Whitehouse School, also K-3, serves more than 500, and Holland Brook School, fourth through fifth grade, as well as Readington Middle School, sixth through eighth, educates 521 and 787 respectively. More than 3,100 students attend Hunterdon Central Regional High School along with students from Delaware Township, East Atwell, Remington, and Raritan Township.

Interstate 78, U.S. Route 202, Route 22 and Route 31 all pass through the township. New Jersey Transit provides service on the Raritan Valley Line to Newark Penn Station and the Hoboken Terminal. This line also has connecting service to Penn Station in New York
