Bridgewater

Bridgewater is a 32 square mile community in central Somerset County, which borders 11 other municipalities. It is the home to approximately 3600 acres of private and public parks (over 20) and recreation opportunities for residents. Bridgewater's noteworthy advantages include Blue Ribbon Schools, international and national pharmaceutical and biotech firms, and is the home of the championship winning Somerset Patriots, a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. as well as the Bridgewater Commons Mall and numerous hotels. The Middlebrook Trail located mostly in Bridgewater is the home to many fantastic plants and animal life, but the largest contributing factor in making the trail increase in popularity is credited to the projects done by the Eagle Scouts and other organizations. Without the help of Eagle Scouts and volunteers, the trail would not be what it is today.

Bridgewater’s population consists of over 44,000 residents to date. Bridgewater hosts its Annual Events, such as the Big Apple Circus as well as its 4th of July Family fun Fair, and is still one of the only towns that has a Drive In Movie at the Duke Island Park. Throughout the summer, Bridgewater offers its Sunday Night Concert Series where all are welcome.

Bridgewater has 5 volunteer fire department companies, 5 volunteer and one paid EMS and other emergency services, and a large police department with many divisions assisting the town in a multitude of ways.

The 32 square miles now known as the Township of Bridgewater were purchased originally from a local Indian Tribe, Chartered by King George II of England in 1749. Bridgewater is now a modern suburban municipality with a balance of residential and commercial use. In the early years, Bridgewater was known only as a farming town. Somerville and Raritan were once part of Bridgewater Township until years earlier where they broke away after the chartering.

Today Bridgewater thrives with a mix of both rural and suburban life, with many new and large businesses, including Sanofi-Aventis, J & J, Metlife and others. Bridgewater has progressed rapidly from its once rural roots, and will continue to grow in the future with its fine residents and great schools.
