Surrounded by an abundance of natural beauty, Basking Ridge, New Jersey (part of Bernards Township) enjoys a long-standing reputation as being among the most affluent areas in the United States, offering a highly rated school system, ample amenities, historic charm, easy access to major roadways and regular transportation for New York commuters.

Together with Liberty Corner, Lyons, and West Millington, Basking Ridge is an unincorporated area of Bernards Township, which comprises 24 square miles of land for more than 26,000 residents in the Somerset Hills region of Somerset County.

According to New Jersey Monthly magazine, Ridge High School in Bernards climbed in the rankings of Top Public High Schools. Overall, the area’s school district serves students K-12^th grade. Four K-5 schools in this township include Cedar Hill Elementary School, Liberty Corner Elementary School, Mount Prospect Elementary School, and Oak Street Elementary School, with a total enrollment of more than 2,500 students. Cedar Hill Elementary School also has an in-house program for children with autism. William Annin Middle School serves 1,260 students in grades 6-8^th and Ridge High School has an enrollment of 1,526. Since 1948, Township students have attended Bernardsville High School, and since 1960, Ridge High School has supplemented the school system.

The population consists of 25,000 people, with two-thirds of the households containing married couples. The average household income is $105,000 and an average family income is approximately $135,000. The percentage of white collar employees is much higher than the national average, at approximately 83%.

The Basking Ridge town pool is located in Pleasant Valley Park, which is a feature many towns do not offer. Four other parks include the historic Lord Stirling, offering a horse stable, riding lessons and many equestrian and family events throughout the year.

New York commuters can choose from two convenient train stations for service to Hoboken as well as directly to Penn Station. The Basking Ridge Station serves the downtown area, and the Lyons Station serves South Basking Ridge. Lakeland Bus Lines provides service to New York City as well. Many residents rely on these excellent services for their daily commute.

Interstate 78 and Interstate 287 intersect in Bernards Township, providing easy travel to and from the city to the east. To the west, Interstate 78 runs all the way to Pennsylvania.
